Meet the Board
Encore's swim team is an entirely volunteer-run organization. All of our Board members have swimmers on the team this year and are happy to chat if you have questions!
Chris Centers is our 2025 Encore Board President. He is supported by Kelly Haan (Vice President), Maria Scalia (Treasurer), Erin Owens (Marketing & Communications) and Juliana Diaz (Volunteer Coordinator). We are actively seeking a new Social Chair - please reach out if you are interested!
EXECUTIVE BOARD:
CHRIS CENTERS - INCOMING PRESIDENT
Chris is a lifelong swimmer, former high school team captain, and proud swim parent at Encore. He swam competitively throughout his youth and represented his team at the YMCA National Swim Meet in breaststroke. His favorite strokes were freestyle and breaststroke—and he still remembers the thrill of early morning practices and race-day adrenaline.
Now serving as Encore Swim Team’s President, Chris brings both his swim background and professional experience in research and design to support the board, coaching staff, and families. He’s passionate about making Encore an inclusive, well-run program where swimmers of all levels feel supported, improve their skills, and enjoy the team experience.
KELLY HAAN - VICE PRESIDENT
Kelly is an active Encore parent with two daughters (8yrs & 11 yrs) who can't wait for the season to start and for the pool water to get warm! They currently swim year round at Quicksilver and look forward to swimming over the summer with Encore. This is Kelly's fourth season with Encore, and she is the person behind the replies to info@encoreswimteam.com emails. Once season starts, you will find her on the pool deck during the 6-7pm practice hour. Come say hi!
MARIA SCALIA - TREASURER & REGISTRAR
Maria is the person you send checks to and keeps our finances in order! She ensures that we have registrations in order and ready for the season. This is Maria's fourth season with Encore. Her youngest child, Vinnie, swims in the boys 13-14 bracket. Maria loves to watch how her son and other team members begin and continue their friendships throughout the season. She is happy to have found such a supportive team of coaches who truly care for the kids and make practices fun. She has volunteered as a Data worker the last 2 years and is glad to have found a new role in support of all families and Board members.
ERIN OWENS - MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

JULIANA DIAZ - VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Juli is in her third year with Encore and her second as volunteer coordinator. With a deep passion for water - especially the ocean, her happy place - she is dedicated to helping young swimmers build confidence and strength in the pool. After witnessing her daughter Maia's incredible progress last season, she hopes to inspire other kids to develop the skills they need to safely enjoy all kinds of water activities, from pool swimming to adventures beyond. You'll often find Juli on the pool deck, keeping up with Maia and her younger brother, Lucas.
GENERAL BOARD:
MIKE CHU - WEBSITE ADMINISTRATOR & PHOTOGRAPHER
Mike has been with Encore since 2022 when his daughter Melanie joined the team. Since 2023 he has been working as Encore’s website administrator and de facto team photographer. If you take any great photos during meets (or want to help with team photography), please contact him! Fun fact about Mike: despite his dedication to helping the swim team, he embarrassingly does not know how to swim!

Please come say hello to any and all of us during practices! We are typically near the sign-in table at the start of practice, as well as taking pictures and assisting where needed on the pool deck. We love to meet all of our swimmers and parents, and we'll welcome your input across the season. If you have any issues, please find us at practice, or contact us at the various emails, as appropriate.
